Just a few of
The Allies

I have been captivated by femmes my entire relationship life. I started dating women in my teenage years and all of my crushes, love interests and heartaches have centered on a femme. The writing of this bio has forced me to examine why. For me the answer is simple, they have been and continue to be “the flame”.
I am completely taken with the outside appearances that denote a femme. I love their hair, their makeup, the manicures and pedicures, the glitter, the way they smell; the way they taste, they way they touch and without question— the way they move. I have found that their shadow remains long after they have left the room. I am equally enchanted by the inner qualities of the femme. They are smart, fiery, intellectual, opinionated and strong beyond measure. I learned long ago that the sexiness and softness of the outside is joined with a strength and passion on the inside.
The femme is my physical, mental and emotional aphrodisiac—they quench the thirst. To the femme—you have my admiration, appreciation and affection.

Q: What do you mean femme? Like she dresses girly?
A: My friend, girly does not begin to describe a femme. Straight girls that don’t own their femininity are girly. Femmes are feminine because they want to be. Being femme isn’t a sign of weakness or submission; it’s a point of strength. And femmes are strong. They know what they want and how to get it. They cannot be bullied or forced to do anything they don’t want to do. They’ll let you know what’s expected of you and won’t accept anything less. And you won’t want to disappoint a femme.
Q: Wait, so it sounds like the femme's the alpha in the relationship?
A: Now you’re getting it. Of course she’s the alpha, femmes are in charge when they want to be, which is most of the time. But if she decides she wants you to be in charge, you better be ready to step up. And then you better be ready to go right back to following her lead without a power struggle. Because a femme expects her partner to celebrate her strength but also know how to bolster her strength if that’s what she needs.
And yes, a femme does now know how to walk properly in heels. And of course she can put her makeup on impeccably. And you can trust a femme to handle herself admirably in any social setting. But there’s so much more. Femmes are practical, confident, unwavering, vulnerable, incredible etc. Femme is a state of mind. And once you know a femme, all you want is to be lucky enough to have a femme love you. Because as far as I know, there is no better feeling in the world than loving a femme and having her love you back.

Femme... just a label? No, it is a way of life! And I thank God that it is.

I went almost the full spectrum in the dating world, until I realized exactly what I was looking for. A woman who liked having her doors opened, cigarettes lit, and yard work done. There is nothing more engaging than a beautiful woman in heels and make-up with the brains and attitude to back it up. Please don’t ever be misled by the term “femme”. These women are strong, independent individuals who know that they don’t need us around. Just be thankful they want us around.

Femmes? What can I say? I love them. I have always been captivated by the amazing inner and outer beauty of femmes. They possess great physical beauty yet usually have the greatest strengths and positive attributes in a relationship. By no means are they submissive or weak. Femmes are women who are strong enough to know who they are and what they like. They would never be insulted if you bought them dinner and open doors for them. I am a proud "Butch", a now dying breed in Atlanta, who always bows at the graces of such beautiful creatures.

Femme Mafia---May you always stay as beautiful and independent as you are and you always have my support!

I love, respect, and admire femmes because they are my friends, confidants, dish divas, glittery glamour-gals, and co-conspirators in gender transgressions. Most importantly, my #1 femme is my love, Aly, whose awesomeness and beauty continues to bewilder me. I hope to give her all that glitters and many children (some with 2 legs, some with four, some with nails to paint, some with claws to clip) to dote upon.

Yay for femmes!

There is a sensuous power that exudes from a true femme. They are goddesses and are mystical to me. They captivate all senses and I’m allured with great intrigue by them. The Femme Mafia is a celebration of the enjoyment of being a woman without having to fall prey to society’s stereotypes. With me (outside of the community), it’s easy to tell I’m queer based on stereotype. On the contrary, with the femmes (even inside the community) it’s hard to tell they are queer based on stereotype and they get ridiculed for it. It saddens me that a community based on "Open Minds" finds a way to still point a finger. I embrace the femmes for being true to themselves and bringing glitter, glam, and sexy back! Whether some want to admit it or not, they make us look ever better! The events the Femme Mafia brings to the community are on a different plateau than what we have been used to in the past. I have been attracted to and have adored femmes since I can remember. They intoxicate me. The Femme Mafia will always have my full support.

Mara AustinThere are a gazillion (yes, a gazillion) reasons why I’m here—why I’m an ally—but I’ll try to keep this fairly succinct. (I can hear the collective sigh of relief emanating from in front of computers everywhere.)
Just as a femme doesn’t need a butch, a boi, an FTM, or, well, anyone, this butch doesn’t need a femme. But I’d be lying my ass off if I said I didn’t love being around femmes, didn’t appreciate them, and didn’t have the utmost respect for them.
I’ve seen bartenders and servers ignore femme friends of mine at the bar and make them wait forever to get a drink. I’ve heard girls at the bar ridicule femme friends of mine for wearing a dress or carrying a purse. And I’ve seen a girl at the bar purposely throw her lit cigarette on a femme I was dating, burning a hole in her dress and leaving a mark on her leg. I’ve gotten in heated arguments with lesbian friends of mine who seem to think femmes (and the butch-femme dynamic, as well) set the women’s movement back two hundred years.
It’s hard for me to comprehend why so many people don’t understand a fact that seems so obvious to me— femmes are some of the toughest, most spirited women out there. Independent and living with integrity, they’re true to themselves, even if it means dealing with ignorance from the straight community as well as ignorance— and discrimination— from the lesbian community. They’re resilient, capable, tireless, and determined. They are— without a doubt— the most beautiful women I know, inside and out.
